Chresta has had an active passion to work with children and  Early Childhood Psychology. She pursued this passion and attended the University of Kansas and graduated in 1997 with a B.A. in Liberal Arts.  Following her desire to work with kids she was accepted as a paraprofessional in a program that worked with children who have Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD).  In 1999 she relocated to Fort Collins, Colorado and in 2000 applied to the University of Northern Colorado to work on her Masters Degree in Special Education.  She graduated in 2002 with her M.A. in Moderate Needs Special Education and completed various course work in Early Childhood Special Education.  She began a program in the Poudre School District in Fort Collins, Colorado in a K-6 program for children who have Emotional Disabilites as well as PDD.  She continued to pursue further coursework from UNC in Severe Affective Special Education.  In 2004 she had her first child and decided to work from home.  In 2006 she had her second child, a son, who was born with Goldenhar Syndrome.  He presented with Hemifacial Mircosomia and Torticollis. Her background helped her to connect with various resources for her family and she became a strong advocate for her son.  It was from here they began their journey as a family with a child who has a Unilateral Hearing Loss. He continues to receive services for Speech Language and Physical Therapy through an Individualized Education Program.  He is followed by a specialist from The Children’s Hospital in Aurora, Colorado who specializes in Craniofacial Abnormalities.  In 2008 she had their third child and in 2009 she became a Statewide UHL Parent Guide by Your Side for Colorado Hands & Voices. She continues to be passionate about working with children and has found a niche in working with both children and families as a Guide.

Lyn is originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico. She has lived in Boulder County for 14 years. She currently resides in Longmont with her husband Eric, and two sons, Cameron (12) and Chris (9). She worked for Hands & Voices as the Statewide Unilateral Hearing Loss Parent Coordinator from 2002 to summer, 2008. Lyn was one of the first official “Guides” for unilateral loss, and so has helped people from all over the United States as well as a few other countries where families of children with UHL and/or microtia have reached out for support. As she states, “Though the Hands & Voices chapter of my life is coming to a close, I will always be open to sharing my experiences and offering support to families as they find their way through the maze of doctors, schools, services, emotions, and the day-to-day life with a child with hearing loss.

Lyn wrote several articles that can be found on these topics on the national website, www.handsandvoices.org.
